Here are some singer / songwriters that I like and would recommend for listening:

Maria Mena - the young Norwegian singer has already produced three records. Remarkable is that she writes all thesongs herself. The quality is suberb and she already had a couple of songs that made the Charts (You're the only one / Just Hold Me). Her latest record ist outstanding, no weak spots / songs to report.

Fiona Apple - US singer Fiona Apple is perfect if you're in the mood for melancholy or sad music. Her latest record dates back to 2005. I strongly recommend her first tow records (Tidal / When the Pawn).

Tori Amos - not much too say to her since she's quite well-known. Though her style is a little repetetive at times she still writes beautiful melodies that go along with thoughtful lyrics.
